How to Reach Ladakh
Ladakh is accessible by air and road. The best mode of transport depends on your time, budget, and sense of adventure.
By Air
The easiest and fastest way to reach Ladakh is by flying into the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (IXL) in Leh. There are daily direct flights from New Delhi, Mumbai, and Srinagar. Note that flying directly to Leh (11,500 ft) requires strict acclimatization for the first 24-48 hours.
By Road
A road trip to Ladakh is a bucket-list experience. There are two main routes:
- Manali-Leh Highway: Open from June to October. A 470 km journey crossing high-altitude passes like Rohtang, Baralacha La, and Tanglang La. Usually takes 2 days with an overnight stop in Keylong or Sarchu.
- Srinagar-Leh Highway: Open from May to November. A 434 km journey via Kargil, crossing Zoji La. This route offers a more gradual ascent, which is better for acclimatization.
