Responsible Tourism in Ladakh

Ladakh is a fragile ecosystem. As visitors, it is our responsibility to minimize our impact and respect the local culture.

Environmental Guidelines

  • Say No to Plastic: Carry a reusable water bottle. Refill it at your hotel or local filtered water stations. Avoid single-use plastic bags.
  • Conserve Water: Water is scarce in the high desert. Take short showers and avoid wasting water.
  • Waste Management: Do not litter. Carry your trash back to Leh where it can be properly disposed of.

Cultural Respect

  • Dress Modestly: Respect local customs by avoiding revealing clothing, especially when visiting monasteries and villages.
  • Monastery Etiquette: Remove your shoes before entering prayer halls. Do not touch sacred objects or use flash photography where prohibited.
  • Ask Before Photographing: Always seek permission before taking pictures of local people.
