Leh to Srinagar Expedition
Overview
Experience the ultimate trans-Himalayan journey riding from the rugged, high-altitude desert of Leh to the lush, green paradise of Srinagar. This 9-day expedition perfectly blends extreme adventure with mesmerizing landscapes. Begin your journey acclimatizing in Leh before crossing the legendary Khardung La into Nubra Valley. Ride to the breathtaking Pangong Tso and venture into the remote Changthang Valley to reach Hanle, India's first Dark Sky Reserve. The adventure peaks as you conquer Umling La, one of the world's highest motorable passes, before returning to Leh. The final leg of the journey takes you through the moonscapes of Lamayuru, the historic Kargil War Memorial, and the challenging Zoji La pass, culminating with a relaxing houseboat stay on the serene waters of Dal Lake in Srinagar.
Day-wise Itinerary
Arrival at Leh Airport | Acclimatization Day
• Welcome to The Land Of High Passes! • We will check into our designated hotels. The rest of the day is at leisure and travelers are strictly advised to acclimatize for a safe journey ahead. Keep yourself hydrated, indulge in minimal physical activities, and acclimatize properly. • In the evening, your trip captain will conduct a tour briefing session. • Dinner followed by an overnight stay in Leh. Standard Check-In time is 11:00 AM.
Leh to Nubra Valley (130 Kms) via Khardung La
• Rise and Shine! Today, we will head out to explore the many wonders of Nubra Valley. • We will begin the day with a visit to Shanti Stupa, known for its white dome structure, peaceful surroundings, and panoramic views of Leh. • After that, we will continue our ride and cross Khardung La (18,380 ft), one of the highest motorable roads in the world, offering breathtaking views of Ladakh’s towering mountains. • Upon reaching Nubra Valley, travelers can explore the region and enjoy activities like the Double Hump Bactrian Camel ride, ATV rides, and more at Hunder Sand Dunes (at personal expense). • Dinner will be served, followed by an overnight stay in Nubra Valley at the hotel. Highlights of the day : Shanti Stupa, Khardung La, Hunder Sand Dunes, Nubra Valley. Note: hot bucket of water will be provided for freshening up in the morning at Nubra, Pangong Lake & Hanle. Bonfire activities in Nubra are subject to weather conditions.
Nubra to Pangong Tso (180 kms) via Diskit Monastery
• We begin our morning by paying a visit to the revered Diskit Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Nubra Valley and home to the iconic 106 ft tall Maitreya Buddha Statue. • Post that, we will continue our journey towards Pangong Tso—a high-altitude lake known for its changing shades of blue and its appearance in movies like 3 Idiots and Jab Tak Hai Jaan. • After riding through rugged and scenic terrains, we will reach Pangong Lake by evening. You can spend a few hours relaxing by the lake and enjoying the views. • Later, we will check in to our cottages and enjoy group bonding sessions as the sky lights up with a billion stars (if weather permits). • Dinner and overnight stay at Pangong Lake. Highlight of the day: Visit to Diskit Monastery, and Pangong Tso. Note: Due to its altitude and location, Nubra, Pangong Lake & Hanle do not have electricity at night. Travelers are recommended to be prepared for the same.
Pangong Tso to Hanle (180 kms) via Changthang Valley
• Today, we begin our journey from Pangong Tso to Hanle via the remote Changthang Valley, one of Ladakh’s most untouched and wild regions. • The route takes us along the border through the scenic villages of Man and Merak. This landscape is known for its raw beauty and is home to rare wildlife like the Kiang (Tibetan Wild Ass), Himalayan Red Fox, and the elusive snow leopard. • En route, we will stop at the Rezang La War Memorial near Chushul, built to honor the brave soldiers who made sacrifice during the 1962 Indo-China War. • Continuing further, we will ride through Tsaga La and Loma Bend, which offer scenic views and make for perfect short breaks along the way. • Today is all about reaching Hanle, a historic village on the ancient Silk Route that once connected India to China. It is also home to India’s highest Astronomical Observatory and is officially India's first Dark Sky Reserve, offering the clearest views of the galaxy. • Upon arrival, we will check in to our cottages/homestays and rest for the night. Highlights of the day: Changthang Valley, Rezang La War Memorial, Hanle
Hanle and Umling La Excursion Day
• After a night spent stargazing, we will refuel our energy and set out to conquer the mighty Umling La - one of the highest motorable passes in the world, perched at an elevation of 19,024 ft. • Today is the day we forget all our fears and gear up for a ride of a lifetime. As you climb higher, the barrenness and twisting turns will literally have adrenaline pumping through your veins. • Reaching the top is a moment every rider looks forward to. The views from Umling La are wide, raw, and unforgettable, making it one of the most rewarding experiences of this trip. • After this thrilling ride, we will return to Hanle and spend the evening soaking in the peaceful surroundings. If the skies are clear, you can once again witness Hanle's magical night sky, with possibilities of spotting the Milky Way and shooting stars. • Dinner will be served, followed by an overnight stay in Hanle. Highlights of the day: Conquering Umling La, Stargazing at Night. Note: Views of the Milky Way are subjective and depend on weather conditions.
Hanle to Leh (254 kms) | Chumathang Village
• Having spent an unforgettable week in Ladakh, today’s return journey will make you want to capture every view along the way. After a delicious breakfast, we will begin our ride back to Leh. • En route, we will pass through Chumathang Village, known for its naturally occurring hot springs rich in minerals, making it one of the unique stops on this journey. • If time permits, we will also visit Shey Palace and Thiksey Monastery, two iconic cultural landmarks that offer a glimpse into Ladakh’s heritage, architecture, and Buddhist traditions. • By evening, we will reach Leh and check in to our hotel. Dinner followed by an overnight stay in Leh. Highlights of the day: Chumathang Village, Shey Palace, and Thiksey Monastery. Note: Visits to Shey Palace and Thiksey Monastery are subject to time availability.
Leh to Kargil (216 Kms) | Namika La
• Post breakfast, we will begin our journey from Leh to Kargil. • En route, we will first visit Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, a spiritually significant landmark, followed by the magical Magnetic Hill. • Continuing further, we will stop at the famous Sangam point, where the Zanskar River meets the Indus River, creating a stunning natural confluence. • As we ride ahead, we will pass through the Lamayuru Hills, often called the Moonland of Ladakh, and also cover Lamayuru Monastery, one of the oldest and most significant gompas in the region. • We will then cross Fotu La Pass (13,479 ft)—the highest point on the Srinagar-Leh highway—followed by Namika La (12,198 ft). • Upon reaching Kargil, we will check in to our designated hotel. Dinner will be served, followed by an overnight stay in Kargil. Highlights of the day: Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Sangam, Lamayuru, Fotu La, Namika La.
Kargil to Srinagar via Dras (210 Kms)
• After an early breakfast, we will begin our journey from Kargil to Srinagar via Sonamarg. • Today’s route takes us through the cold and scenic trails of Dras, known as the Gateway to Ladakh and one of the coldest inhabited places on Earth. • En-route, we will visit the Kargil War Memorial, built in memory of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. • After paying our respects, we will continue our drive and make a brief stop at the Zoji La Pass (11,649 ft.), one of the most challenging and iconic passes on the Srinagar–Leh highway. • As we descend, the landscape dramatically changes from barren brown mountains to the lush green meadows of Sonamarg. • Upon reaching Srinagar, we will check in to our houseboats. Dinner will be served, followed by an overnight stay in Srinagar. Highlights of the day: Kargil War Memorial, Zojila Pass.
Departure from Srinagar | Tour Ends
• Post breakfast, we will check out of our houseboats. The group will disband and go their separate ways with unforgettable memories of the Ladakh bike trip adventure. • End of tour. Note: Book your return flights/trains for this day after consulting with your designated travel consultant. Standard check-out time: 11:00 AM.
